In answer to your question, medo and katy, Kryptonite is radioactive fragments of Krypton. Due to the different atmosphere, and the way the sun affects the Kryptonite the radiation causes Clark’s body to fail, and the humans would get unique abilities, altering their bodies the opposite way it would to Clark.
